Situation in the Middle East

Published on 01-03-2026 16:38
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has further tightened its travel advisories for Iran and several Gulf states. For parts of the Middle East, an orange or red travel code now applies and many flights have been suspended. Are you in Iran, the Gulf states or elsewhere in the region? Share your contact details with your programme and follow the official travel advice.

Travel advice

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign AffairsExternal link has revised the travel advice for many countries in the Middle East. Several countries are now classified as code orange or red.  From the UvA there is no travel to these areas and we urge students not to travel there.

Are you in an orange or red area? If so, return to the Netherlands or travel to another safe country if this can be done safely.

Flights temporarily suspended

Many airlines have temporarily suspended their scheduled flights. As a result, there are fewer travel options to and from the region.

No information yet about repatriation

At present, there is no information about a possible repatriation by the Dutch government from the region. We therefore advise you to monitor the situation closely yourself.

Share your contact details

Are you in the region? If so, please share your local contact details with your degree programme. This will ensure that you can be reached if necessary.
