What do the student councils do?
The student councils have real influence on UvA policy. They have the right of consent and the right to advise, which means the UvA Executive Board must consult them – and sometimes needs their approval – when making important decisions about, for example:
quality of education and timetables
- study facilities and study spaces
- sustainability
- facilities on campus
In addition, the councils launch their own initiatives. Examples include:
- the start of the New Mensa, where you can get a healthy and affordable lunch
- the introduction of free menstrual products in the toilets
Central and faculty councils
Student representation at the UvA is organised as follows:
- Central Student Council (CSR): represents all UvA students at the central level
- Faculty Student Councils (FSRs): represent students within each individual faculty
As a student, you are represented both in the CSR (central level) and in the FSR of the faculty where you study.
